Maintain healthy & vitality during Ramadhan

Ramadhan is a time of spiritual and physical cleansing. During this time, your diet should not differ much from the norm and should be as simple as possible. Nevertheless, many people are prone to constipation due the reduction of dietry fibers and fluids, especially water.

Tips to maintain regularity:

  • Drink as much water as possible between buka puasa and sahur to give the body enough time to adjust to changing fluid levels.
  • Opt for high fiber foods during sahur. Complex carbohydrates or fiber-rich food enhance satiety, prolong digestion (up to 8 hours), minimizes blood sugar fluctuation and reduces hunger pangs during fasting.
  • Avoid refined carbohydrates such as white rice, bread or flour. They are quick to digest (last only 3 to 4 hours) and induce hunger. Also avoid food high in fat, sugar or salt.
  • Open fast with a glass of warm water, followed by a few dates. Ensure dinner is well balanced, with a small amount of food from each food group.
